The European Union reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 8% last year. Pollution levels are now 37% lower than in 1990.
This significant drop is credited to a surge in renewable energy use and a decline in coal consumption.
The energy sector led the way, with industrial and construction emissions also showing strong improvements.
“The impact of climate change is accelerating,” said EEA’s Leena Ylä-Mononen. “We must build resilience and reduce emissions further.”
