The UK’s first food waste supermarket has opened in Pudsey, near Leeds, thanks to the Real Junk Food Project.
This innovative store, located on the Grangefield Industrial Estate, invites customers to shop for food discarded by supermarkets and other businesses on a “pay as you feel” basis.
The initiative has already made a significant impact, helping struggling families like Kirsty Rhodes’, who described it as a “lifeline.”
Founder Adam Smith plans to open similar warehouses in every UK city.
The Real Junk Food Project started with food waste stalls in their cafes and has expanded to include the “Fuel for School” program, which delivers surplus food to schools, feeding 12,000 children weekly.
