When Ron Finley received an arrest warrant for planting vegetables in front of his house, he decided to take action.
As a member of the gardening group Green Grounds, he started a petition and rallied the community.
The Los Angeles Times picked up the story, bringing global attention to the cause.
The city council noticed too, and the arrest warrant was revoked.
Thanks to this activism, a new law now allows free gardens next to sidewalks in Los Angeles.
“It’s about changing your life and being responsible for your health and your community,” Finley said.
“We’ve been enslaved by food companies, and they’re killing us slowly. There are other ways to supply food.”
