Major progress: Veteran homelessness cut by half

The collaboration between HUD, VA, and USICH has yielded fantastic results, with a 47% decrease in veteran homelessness since 2010.

The latest data from January 2016 shows a 17% decrease from the previous year, highlighting a positive trend.

Thanks to initiatives like Opening Doors and programs such as HUD-VASH, over 85,000 vouchers have been awarded, aiding more than 114,000 homeless veterans since 2008.

First Lady Michelle Obama’s Mayors Challenge has also spurred action, with 27 communities and two states effectively ending veteran homelessness.

HUD and VA’s comprehensive programs, including health care, housing solutions, and job training, have made a significant impact.

In FY 2015 alone, these efforts helped over 157,000 people secure permanent housing, including 99,000 veterans and 34,000 children.
