Seattle’s bold move: First US city to ban plastic straws, utensils

Starting June 2018, Seattle will ban plastic straws and utensils in restaurants, making it the first US city to do so.

This initiative aims to reduce plastic waste and protect marine life.

Sego Jackson of Seattle Public Utilities encourages the use of compostable or reusable alternatives.

The Lonely Whale Foundation will preview this change in September with the “Strawless in Seattle” campaign.

Over 100 restaurants and major organizations will participate, offering sustainable alternatives.

Seattle’s effort follows the success of its plastic bag ban in 2010, which significantly cut plastic waste.
