California winery employs earthworms for eco-friendly wastewater treatment

Fetzer Vineyards in California is using earthworms to tackle the problem of wastewater disposal.

Traditional methods involve aeration ponds, which are slow and energy-intensive.

Instead, Fetzer is partnering with BioFiltro, a Chilean company, to use worms for cleaning their wastewater.

This innovative system sprays wastewater into bins filled with worms, which clean the water in just four hours.

The process is eco-friendly, requiring almost no electricity, and produces nutrient-rich worm castings as a byproduct.

Fetzer has been a leader in sustainability, using renewable energy since 1999 and now embracing this natural wastewater solution.
