The World Health Organization (WHO) has certified Egypt as malaria-free, calling it a “truly historic” achievement.
Efforts to eliminate the disease, which has affected Egypt since ancient times, began nearly 100 years ago.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised Egypt for its success in ending a disease that once plagued pharaohs.
Egypt becomes the third country in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, after the UAE and Morocco, to reach this milestone.
