Lost Maya City uncovered in Mexico’s forests

Archaeologists have uncovered a lost Maya city, Valeriana, hidden for over 1,000 years in Mexico’s Campeche region.

Using LiDAR technology, researchers mapped 6,764 structures, including pyramids, reservoirs, and roads, spread over 47 square miles.

Valeriana, located in the Maya Lowlands, was once part of a vast and interconnected network of cities.

“This breakthrough confirms the complexity and organization of Maya civilization,” said lead researcher Luke Auld-Thomas.
