Bill Gates has launched a campaign to improve the lives of 100,000 families in sub-Saharan Africa by donating chickens.
On June 7, Gates wrote in a blog post that anyone living in extreme poverty benefits from having chickens.
Gates and his wife Melinda are donating 100,000 chickens to families in need.
They are also partnering with Heifer International to create a sustainable poultry market.
Currently, only 5% of rural families in sub-Saharan Africa have improved breeds of vaccinated chickens. The goal is to raise this to 30%.
