In a groundbreaking effort to combat wind turbine waste, researchers from Queen’s University Belfast and their international collaborators have transformed old turbine blades into robust footbridges capable of supporting up to 30 tons. These innovative ‘BladeBridges’ have already graced Ireland, with a 21-foot bridge in Draperstown and a 15-foot bridge in Cork, passing rigorous tests.
The team’s environmentally conscious approach also explores using blades for bus shelters, street furniture, and more. With wind turbine waste becoming a pressing issue, these creative solutions are a beacon of hope for a greener future.
