UNESCO adds Palestinian West Bank site to world heritage list, celebrating rich history

In a momentous decision, UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee has added 42 remarkable sites to its prestigious World Heritage List, a move celebrated during the 45th session held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from Sept. 10 to 25. Among these treasures is a site in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, a testament to the region’s rich history dating back to the 9th millennium B.C. This newly recognized gem, situated near Jericho, is the fifth site in the territory to receive this honor, with the Old City of Jerusalem already being a cherished cultural icon, transcending borders.
