A remarkable find at Mount Kelly College in Tavistock, Devon, as volunteer archivist and Plymouth University student Sarah Coe uncovers a Victorian passport belonging to renowned artist Sir Charles Lock Eastlake.
The passport, adorned with consular stamps from his 1858 European travels, has left experts, including Dr. Susanna Avery-Quash of the National Gallery, astounded. The National Gallery will now reunite the newfound treasure with another Eastlake passport in its archives, shedding light on the pivotal figure’s life and contributions to the Victorian art scene.
